Welcome to the Wall Around the World series, where we go inside the homes of some amazing gallery wall stylists and get the inside scoop on how they choose their art and decor. Check back next week for the latest virtual tour!
Today’s thrifty bohemian gallery walls come from Virginia, where Tracey lives with her family.
Here, Tracey shares the secrets to her home style, including where she gets her love for warm tones and wicker.
On where she lives
Currently, I reside in Chesapeake, Virginia. Chesapeake is a very diverse city and is located near farmland, forest and wetlands, to include The Great Dismal Swamp.
I live in a Ranch style home and have lived here for over 2 years.
Since I originally come from California, it’s nice to be close to the water. The only downside of living anywhere on the East Coast, however, is the weather!!!
I’m used to warm, sunny California days, and so the winters kill me!!
I consider myself a thrift-terior and plant stylist who loves to curate vintage home decor pieces and I absolutely love plants!
I’m a wife, mother and grandmother, and I’m the owner of an online vintage home decor shop, MochaGirl Marketplace.
Fantasy house guest: I would love to hang out with Chrissy Teigen! She is so down to earth and funny and I really think she would love all of my plants and warmness of my home.
On her home decor style
I believe I would best describe my home as a mixture of bohemian with a dash of modern.
So I guess eclectic is really how I would describe it. I love to find vintage, thrifted pieces and incorporate them in my decor. I think thats what makes my home special.
My mother always decorated our home in warm colors and we had a lot of wood, wicker and plants. I guess that always stuck with me.
On making decor decisions
Pop culture influences: I’m old school (probably because I’m older than most!) so my favorite artist is Prince and his movie “Purple Rain.” He gave me absolutely no home decor inspiration, but what he did do was to help me be free in my thinking. To be and create whatever I wanted and to not be afraid of being unique.
Favorite shops: I’m a thrifter at heart! I always look there first for that one favorite treasure. I do shop with stores that I have met through social media like D+K Renewal, Flea Market Fab and At Home Stores.
Finding inspiration: There are so many that I follow on social media that have totally different design style. I like to draw inspiration from all of them and each one brings something special to the decor world.
On the gallery wall process
When I create a gallery wall, I usually think of a theme.
If it’s a basket wall, I want to create a pattern and color scheme. If I do an artwork gallery wall, I usually find that one piece and work around that one piece.
It’s important that it makes sense to me, that each piece has something in common with the piece next to it.
Be you! There is no wrong way to style something. It all has to make sense to you because in the end, you are the one living there!
A gallery wall can be as big or as little as you want. If each piece compliments each other, then you can design something wonderful.
On her favorite wall art
Maggie Stephenson art: One of my favorite pieces is my piece from Maggie Stephenson. She always creates art that speak to me. I feel like it’s me in each piece I own.
Vintage art: I found a cool piece of vintage art from Frank Morrison at a thrift store! I was so happy to find it and it compliments this space perfectly.
Serigraph art: In my bedroom, I found these unique pieces of Serigraph art from the artist David Allgood. They were the perfect green addition to my wall space.
